Nutley Family Service Bureau: Upcoming Programs & Workshops:
Thursday, May 23, 30 – 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm – Kids Social Skills Workshop (Ages 9-12) – In this free program, elementary school children learn how to interact in ways that are optimally communicative and socially appropriate with a focus on skills for effective listening, reciprocal responsiveness, self-reflection, behavior modulation and heightened sensitivity to others. The participants engage in child-centered activities such as: game playing, balanced competition and creative arts. Wednesday, June 5, 19 – 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Families Coping with Addiction Support Group –  When a family member has a substance use disorder, spouses, parents, siblings, and children often suffer in silence, living in turmoil as household stability and unity is negatively impacted by their family member’s progressive disease of addiction. If you are interested in learning how to break the cycle of dysfunctional relationship patterns associated with addiction, join us. Saturday, June 8th – 6:30 pm – Rock Hunger III – Back by popular demand! Nutley Family Service Bureau’s live show Rock Hunger III at the Old Canal Inn returns on Saturday, June 8th, 2019. The concert headline band The Attic will be joined by special guests The Adventures of Matte Black, Drunk Uncles and The Sticky Wickets. Good Vibes Yoga – Upcoming Events:
Friday, May 24th – 8:00 pm – Kick Off The Summer With Love Kirtan! An evening of Sound healing through chanting and mantra. Come practice Bhakti yoga through namasankirtana – singing the names of God together. Join us for an intimate practice of devotional chanting, a call and response tradition passed down through the saints of India. Lead by Matthew Dwyer and Steve Dessimone. Nutley Historical Society – Memorial Day Walk:
Monday, May 27th – 9:30 am to 10:30 am – On Memorial Day, Museum Director, John Simko will lead a guided walking tour starting from Memorial Park (Mudhole) to the Nutley Museum, stopping along the way at the locations of Nutley’s long-gone mills and other historic sites. Nutley Music Boosters Association – Nutley Night of Jazz:
Tuesday, May 28th – 7:00 pm – The Nutley Music Boosters Association and the Nutley Instrumental Music Department will host “Nutley Night of Jazz” on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. Join us for a fabulous evening of jazz music performed by our Nutley High School and John H. Walker Middle School music ensembles under the direction of Mr. Baron Raymonde and Mr. Vincent Vicchiariello. The concert begins at 7:00pm and will take place at the Nutley Elks Lodge #1290, 242 Chestnut Street, Nutley. $15 per person and includes light bites. Cash Bar will also be available. Nutley Public Library – Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, May 22nd – 10:30 am – Preschool Story Time – Must be a Nutley Resident. Preschool Story Time is for children ages 3-5. Preschool age children and their caregivers enjoy old and new picture books, create arts and crafts, and meet other children from the Nutley area. Registration is required.
Wednesday, May 22nd – 1:00 pm – Wednesday Afternoon Knitters – Come share your love of knitting and crocheting with both beginning and experienced knitters. Meet fellow knitters, brush-up on your skills, and learn some new techniques. Please bring your own supplies. This group meets every Wednesday.
Thursday, May 23rd – 3:00 pm – Make and Take Workshop with Allison Zuzzio of LaLa Studios – Make relaxing spa creations to take home in the fun workshop. Grades 7-12. Registration Required.
Thursday, May 23rd – 7:00 pm – 1918 Nutley Memorial Day Parade Movie – Join us for a movie to see the “1918 Nutley Memorial Day Parade”. This film will be hosted by Mayor Scarpelli and John Demmer.

Thursday, June 6th – 7:00 pm – Nutley at War Film Screening – Join Nutley historians John Demmer and David Wilson for a screening and discussion of Nutley at Warat the Nutley Public Library. This film was created in 1942 by the Nutley Defense Council and has not been shown in public since 2002. Recently restored footage in this 40-minute film will take you back in time when Nutley organized its citizens to prepare for enemy attacks. Scenes filmed throughout Nutley, familiar family names, interior and exterior views of old Nutley buildings, and a celebratory parade document the hard work and dedication of Nutley neighbors.
